Jamal Anderson pleads guilty to reckless driving

Sports enthusiasts always idolize their favorite players but sometimes, they get frustrated as many famous athletes commit traffic infringement. Like the case of this former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving last Monday in the DeKalb County (Ga.) State Court and he was sentenced to a year of probation. This event was reported by the Atlantic Journal Constitution.

Anderson was ordered to pay $700 fine and to complete 64 hours of community service. His legal counsel told the press that Anderson was also required to attend a program on defensive driving and to be part of a drunk drinking panel.

Sports-lovers are familiar with this athlete as he played eight NFL seasons with the Falcons. His brush with traffic law happened last July 26 when he was arrested for driving under the influence. A police officer noticed that he was driving so slowly and impeded the flow of the traffic. Charge against him but it was later reduced to reckless driving. Acting as the Anderson’s attorney, Michael Hawkins, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his client was just tired and not under the influence of alcohol.

Anderson was thankful for the support everyone gave him through this difficult time. Anderson sent the message through his attorney, who in turned told The Atlanta-Journal Constitution to print the message. Anderson still claimed that from day one he had always maintained his innocence to the DUI charge, and was glad that charge was dismissed.

Anderson led the Falcons during the Super Bowl in 1999 and was known for his Dirty Bird touchdown celebrations. In the 2001 season, he retired after suffering a knee injury.
