Speeding Car Hits Concrete Wall

CHICAGO — At least one woman is dead and a man was injured after the woman operator lost control of a fast moving car she was driving early Sunday. Due to her speed, she crashed on a concrete wall at the Kennedy Expressway near Harlem Avenue.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, the 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The mishap occurred at 2:55 in the morning at the Resurrection Medical Center, Pending the notification to be sent to her kin, her identity was not being released.

There was a 24-year-old man who was a passenger in the 1999 Honda Accord; he was also injured and was transported to the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Alan Ulcigrai reported.

The Accord, driven by a woman driver was traveling eastward along the expressway at such a high rate of speed about 2:21 in the morning. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle which veered towards the left roadway and struck crash barrels at the Harlem Avenue exit, Ulcigrai recounted. The Accord then stopped on the right shoulder of the expressway.

Ulcigrai said that both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts and the authorities do not consider weather conditions to have been a factor. An autopsy scheduled for the fatality will be conducted Monday to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Witnesses reported to the State police that initially the saw that the car traveling the wrong direction on the expressway; but later they clarified that they saw the woman driving in the right direction before the crash.
