Indiana woman receives speeding ticket after car rollover in Van Buren County

Pawpaw Township, MI– After her car rolled over 1-94 last Thursday, a 24-year-old Indiana woman was taken to Lakeview Hospital in Pawpaw.

According to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff Department, she was issued a ticket for speeding.

The woman issued the ticket is identified as Kassandra McCorkhill. She claimed that she lost control of her 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier after a lane change on westbound I-94 near 41st Street. Unable to control the vehicle, the car went into a ditch on the north side of the highway and overturned. She was trapped inside.

Some people who witnessed the crash freed McCorkhill from the seriously damaged car. An ambulance responded and she was immediately transported to the Lakeview Hospital for she was complaining of head and back injuries. On Friday, she was released from the hospital.

.Last November 30, a Pawpaw woman crashed her car into a tree, injuring herself and her five-year-old son. The police later earned that the woman had her driver’s license suspended eight times.

The crash took place on 60th Street, near 8th Avenue in Van Buren County late Thursday night.

According to Van Buren County deputies, the woman must have crossed over into opposing lane of traffic, veered off the road and struck a large tree. The woman and her son were extricated from the vehicle and taken to the South Haven Hospital. She was later taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo and is in serious condition.  The boy was treated and released from the hospital.

Deputies reported that alcohol was a factor in the crash and the woman told them that she had 1 to 1 1/2 pints of whiskey prior to driving. The name of the woman will be released at her arraignment.
