The System

Louisiana doesn’t have a state-based point system, but it is a participant of the Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS).

The PDPS is a component of the National Driver Register (NDR). It acts as a bank of information regarding driver’s license histories from all states, including any:

  • Suspensions
  • Revocations
  • Cancellations
  • Denials
  • Serious traffic offenses

A driver’s PDPS also includes basic identification information such as his or her name, date of birth, sex, and driver’s license number. Louisiana uses this information to determine whether or not a person can be licensed in Louisiana.

Checking the Status of Your License

If you need or want to check the status of your driver’s license, you can read about ordering a driving record report.

You’re NDR Record

If you would like to find out whether or not you have a record with the NDR, simply download the Pointer Request Form using the free Adobe Reader, complete it, have it notarized, and send it to:

  • National Driver Register
  • 400 Seventh St. SW
  • Room 6124A (NPO-124)
  • Washington, DC 20590-0001

For more information about the PDPS, call the NDR at (202) 366-4800 or visit our Louisiana Driving Record section.
