Police Officer Injures due to mistake of driver

The Christmas rush was one of the reasons people get into all sorts of traffic mishap which kept the traffic people busy keeping the roads safe.

Police reported that they have arrested a woman who ran a red light and in the process injured a police officer in Hamilton Township.

The incident took place Monday at around 12:30 o’clock in the morning. According to investigators, an operator identified as Krystal Cruz and residing in Bethlehem was driving southwards on CR 575. She failed to stop at a red light at the corner of US Route 40.

According to reports of investigators, her vehicle crashed with a Hamilton Township Police car that was traveling westbound on Route 40. Officials stated that due to the collision, the police car was impelled to veer towards the center median where it hit down a pole that supported the base of two traffic lights.

Officer Belford Rivera, the driver of the police car, was immediately transported to Atlanticare. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and is currently in stable condition.

Cruz, the erring operator was arrested and charged with the following: with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving and Failure to Observe aTraffic Signal.

Cruz and her unidentified passenger were not hurt in the crash. Police are trying to investigation why Cruz ran a red light at the intersection of Route 40. It was not known if both occupants of the car were wearing seat belts.

Due to the accident, westbound lane of US Rt. 40 and the travel lane of southbound CR 575 were closed until the emergency crew was able to clear the area and remove the traffic light post from the area.
